Full Eucharistic Rosary Congresses
Overview of the Full Eucharistic Rosary Congress
The Foundation: Everything in the Basic Congress
The Full Congress begins with the same core as the Basic: the Blessed Sacrament exposed continuously for seven days and nights, the Rosary prayed aloud at the beginning of each hour using the Rosary Binder, and the four sets of mysteries cycling through the week. That foundation does not change. What the Full Congress adds is built around it, not in place of it.
If you have not read the Basic Congress page, start there. It covers the Adoration schedule, the Rosary Binder, the role of Shift Captains, and the coordinator structure that the Full Congress also depends upon.
What the Full Congress Adds
Daily Evening Masses A special Mass is celebrated each morning or evening of the congress, each with its own intention. Common themes include: a Mass for youth, for vocations, for healing of the family, for the sick, for the conversion of sinners, for the nation, and for the souls in Purgatory. These Masses give parishioners a natural point of entry into the week each evening and draw attendance from beyond the parish's regular congregation. Your pastor works with the Mass/Confession/Processions Coordinator to schedule celebrants. A Mass Schedule form is available on the Resources page. If your parish already has a daily Mass schedule, just use one of those Masses to fill this need.
Processions A Marian Procession, a Eucharistic Procession, or both may be held during the week. Processions are public acts of faith that extend the congress beyond the walls of the church and invite the wider community to participate in some fashion. Candles, the Rosary prayed aloud, and the faithful gathered in the street around Our Lady or Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament are a witness the neighborhood notices. Coordinate the route and any permits needed well in advance. Candles and other processional items should be confirmed with the pastor or sacristan early in planning.
Extended Confession Times The Sacrament of Reconciliation may be offered at scheduled times throughout the week, typically one hour before the evening Masses and one hour after the morning Mass each day. A Confession Roster posted in the narthex helps the faithful know when to come. More Confession opportunities bring more people into the confessional; this is one of the most spiritually significant elements a Full Congress adds. A Confession Roster scheduling form is available on the Resources page.
Guest Speakers One or more speakers may present each day on topics related to the Eucharist, Our Lady, the Holy Rosary, or the message of Fatima. Speakers may be priests, religious, or qualified lay faithful. Confirm speakers' topics, dates, and times well in advance as this is one of the longer-lead planning items. Speaker talks are typically held in the evening, before or after an evening Mass.
The Coordinator Team
The Full Congress typically requires a larger team than the Basic. In addition to the Main Coordinator and Adoration Coordinator, a Full Congress generally needs:
A Promotions Coordinator to manage outreach, including parish communications, diocesan announcements, local Catholic school contacts, bulletin inserts, and any radio or media promotion. The Promotions Coordinator also reaches out to neighboring parishes to invite their parishioners to attend.
A Mass/Confession/Processions Coordinator to handle the logistics of the daily Masses, the Confession schedule, and the procession. This coordinator works directly with the pastor and any visiting priests to confirm schedules, celebrants, themes, and what materials are needed for each.
Shift Captains remain essential to filling the 168 Adoration hours, as in the Basic Congress. With a larger volunteer pool typically drawn in by the fuller program, recruiting Shift Captains for a Full Congress is often easier than for a Basic. Our Resources include links to assist with scheduling.
A Note on Scope
Not every element of the Full Congress needs to be present every year, and not every element needs to be identical in scale. A parish hosting its first Full Congress might run a procession and Confession times without guest speakers; another might begin with speakers and add a procession the following year. The core is always continuous Adoration and the hourly Rosary, and must never be compromised. The additional elements are added according to what your parish can sustain well.
ERC is also available directly to answer questions and help you work through any situation that arises during planning. We truly welcome your calls.
